In the beginning of May I gave a friend my resume to submit to her company for an IT summer internship. Less than a week later I got a call from HR asking to set up an interview. A week after that I got the offer. The company is in Santa Clara and I've been living in Antioch since March. That's 130 miles roundtrip along the 680 corridor during rush hour. No way.

In the middle of finals, last weekend, I moved to Sunnyvale. Mostly. There is still stuff in Antioch and a storage space in Hayward, but the essentials plus are here. Finals were fairly mellow as such beasts go: one open book essay exam, one 40 question multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank exam and a powerpoint presentation of a group research project. I passed, and am anticipating As and Bs. Thursday was my last final.

Friday I worked a half day at the internship. Mellow people, intense gig. I'm gonna learn a lot and it's gonna be all good. The IT team took me to lunch at a brewpub and, yeah, we drank beer. Mine was the darkest. Then I headed back to Hayward to pick up [livejournal.com profile] airshipjones and go to campus.

Graduation was mostly mediocre, with spots of outright bad. Arrangements for disabled services were inadequate and inconsiderate. The ceremony itself was boring and the tech was subpar. However, I got to sit and walk with one of my favorite classmates and friends were all around me. When the actual awarding of (blank) diplomas started, I got all choked up and teary-eyed. My Dad, Stepmom and [livejournal.com profile] airshipjones were there to witness my triumph. That was what I wanted most. I am satisfied.

Troy and I had tickets to see Peter Gabriel in Berkeley after the ceremony. Due to the afore-mentioned crappy graduation logistics, we were really late getting off campus. I was cold, cranky and crashing, so we opted for food first at our favorite sushi place. This meant we didn't get to the concert until later than I even want to admit but make it we did, and it was wonderful. Totally worth the hassles.

The next day we got up bright and early, headed back to HayWeird and then I took off for Sacramento to pick up my friend and her kids and take them to Antioch. 300 miles later and back on the road to the Bay Area by 4 pm (I'm sorry, BFAntioch is *not* the Bay Area!) I was in rough enough shape that I was worried about falling asleep behind the wheel. I made it to the RabbitWarren but it was obvious to everyone I wasn't going anywhere else last night. I was shaking and ill from fatigue toxins. Very yucky. [livejournal.com profile] airshipjones was wonderful. He drove all the way to Sunnyvale to let Nanook out, and give him food and water. My hero!

Today has been mild puttering. The couch is installed in my room, so now there is seating, yay! But any thoughts I've had of running other errands, or accepting that afore-mentioned beach invite I just knew was coming! did not manifest into action. I did, however, finish my application for a student teaching position at UC Berkeley. Everything crossed and hoping! Now I await pizza. Sleep soon to follow and my first full day at a job in over three years. Life is utterly exhausting but good. Bring on the summer social life!
