Nanook has been acting "weird" since last week's vaccinations, but nothing obvious enough to run screaming back to the vet. Til he stopped eating his dry food three days ago. We went to the pet hospital yesterday. The vet found nothing wrong in a physical exam, and he ate up the wet food she gave him. So today, after still not touching his dry food (which he has never refused before) he got chicken & rice. I have a call into the vet to discuss options, suspecting he has sore gums or teeth, since he doesn't even want to eat his treats right away, and has been refusing to play tug-of-war, one of his favorite games. Beyond not being able to afford any of this, I am scared. He is my baby and I hate, hate, hate seeing signs that he is getting old. But he is 8, and that makes him a "senior" dog. I am not handling this very well.

Poor puppy! Your guesses about teeth and gums are really good ones... especially if he's still eating wet happily. Try not to panic yet! *hug*

Crossed fingers that it's something minor and passing, and, yes, the elderly have more tooth and gum problems (*cough*just-canceled-periodontal-appointment*/cough*). For the rest... it's very hard to contemplate the future but don't look too far ahead, enjoy the days and let it come in its own time. All best wishes for you and Nanook, always.
