How do you make a hot toddy?

The juice of one lemon
A big ol' squeeze of honey
A big dollop of whiskey/burbon
Hot water to fill the mug

Is your toddy gay or straight?

Hee hee, sometimes the answers you get are better than the questions!

1. Buy Trader Vic's hot rum batter from Safeway. It's in the booze aisle in a little tub that looks like margarita salt.

2. Buy also rum or brandy. Either works.

3. In a mug add a tablespoon or two of the batter and a couple of fingers of booze. Nuke for 30 seconds or so. Mix batter into booze.

4. Add boiling water.

5. Drink & enjoy. Adjust future mugs to taste. More or less booze, more or less batter, et cetera.

What about bourbon instead of rum or brandy?

I prefer brandy, but this is how I always make them. If I can't have a Tom N Jerry. :)

Oh, I think it needs to be rum to really be a hot toddy! Nummy.

Personally not a fan, but the sweetness of burbon should lend itself nicely.

I grew up with brandy only as the ingredient... just switched to rum 'cause I like the spice.

This is for "hot buttered rum" which is also awesome. There's a recipe somewhere in my LJ (check "recipe" tag) for making a batter from scratch that you can keep in the freezer. (EDIT: found it -> http://kathryn-aka-kat.livejournal.com/9403.html)

The lemon/honey/whisky (or bourbon) recipe in the first reply is the "hot toddy".

More than one hot drink recipe around. :-)
